Package Popup v1.0---------------------------------------------------------------------copyright 1995 Stand Alone, Inc. & Ben Gottlieb* What's it do?---------------------------------------------------------------------	Package Popup adds a button to the NotePad application that, when tapped, will popup a list of all installed packages. Tapping on a package will thaw the package (if it's frozen,) launch the package,and, after you quit, re-freeze the package (if it was frozen before.)	* What's in this archive?---------------------------------------------------------------------	There are three Newton software packages and three text files inthis archive. They are:	* PkgPopup.txt	document you're now reading. 'Nuff said.	* PkgPopup.pkg	software package you'll install on your Newton.	* SASReg.pkg	software package you'll install on your Newton to					enter the password you get when you register 					Package Popup.	* Register.txt	read me file describing the Register software.	* Register.pkg	software package you can install on your Newton					to use Register, which will allow you to pay for 					Package Popup via email.	* SAStuff.txt	A list of all Stand Alone products.* Installing Package Popup---------------------------------------------------------------------	First off, you must get the Package Popup software package onto yourNewton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac orWindows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton BackupUtility. See the documentaion with each of these for moreinformation on installing packages with them.* Using Package Popup---------------------------------------------------------------------	When tapped, the package popup button (it's icon looks like aminiature package) will pop up a list of all installed packages (anypackage filed in the "Storage" folder of the Extras drawer will NOTshow up, and neither will autoparts.) At the top of this list will bethree addition options: Rotate Screen, Restart Newton, and Put NewtonTo Sleep. Tapping the first of these will switch the orientation of theNewton screen, either from Landscape to Portrait or vice versa,depending upon the current orientation. The second will restart theNewton (just like pushing the restart button in the batterycompartment) and the third will put the Newton to sleep (just liketoggling the power switch on the side of the Newton.)	Tapping on a package will thaw (if needed) the package and launch it.If it was frozen when launched, then after you quit it will berefrozen. Packages that are frozen take up no heap (similar to RAM on adesktop PC), so it is a good idea to keep frozen any packages you useinfrequently. To freeze a package, simply select it in the extrasdrawer, tap the envelope at the lower right of the drawer, and select"Freeze Package".If you'd like to do a garbage collection (to clear heap memory, similar toRAM on a desktop computer) you can tap and hold even longer. When the buttonun-hilites, it's done a garbage collection.* Selecting Folders for Packages---------------------------------------------------------------------	If you routinely use packages only from certain folders, you can tellPackage Popup to only look into those folders when it pops up it'slist. To do this, simply tap on the "PrefsÉ" item at the end of thePackage Popup menu. This will bring up a window with a list in it. Inthis list you can check off those folders that you wish to include.Packages stored in unchecked folders will not be shown. Package Popupalso ignores the "Storage" and the "Extensions" folders.	If you've selected certain folders to show, you can popup a list ofALL packages (including those in unchecked folders, but not those inthe "Storage" and the "Extensions" folders) by tapping and holding onthe Package Popup button for a half second (until the Newton 'squeaks'.)If you don't want this feature (ie, just a list of folders or a garbagecollection) then you can check off the checkbox in prefs to disable it.* Registering Package Popup---------------------------------------------------------------------	You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Package Popup, during which it will function fully. Should you wish to register, you'll need to do one of the following:	* Call us and pay using Visa or Mastercard. We can give you a 		password right over the phone: instant gratification!	* Send us a check for $15 to:		Stand Alone		1146 Morse Ave., #3C		Chicago, IL, 60626, USA			* Using CompuServe, GO SWREG.		* Using Flash Sheridan's Register program (enclosed in the Package Popuparchive) and either NewtonMail (built into the Newton) or CatamountSoftware's Aloha (shareware, $50, for more info, contact Catamount atinfo@catamount.com).		Open up Register, fill in the application (PackagePopup:SAS), the	amount ($15), and your credit card information, and email it.	However you register, PLEASE be sure to include an email address(it's not vital, but it will result in MUCH speedier service) and your name, as entered in the Owner Info section of your Newton. This is used to generate the password we send you to unlock Package Popup, so it has to be exact.	Once you register, you will receive a password from us. To use it,install the SAS Register package (also enclosed in the Package Popuparchive), select "Package Popup" from the pop up menu at the top, and enterthe password. You should get a message confirming the password.
